Conference 2013 - Looking Ahead

Laubach Literacy Ontario's annual conference took place at Nipissing University in beautiful North Bay, Ontario from June 21st - June 23rd, 2013.

It was hosted by North Bay Literacy council who celebrated their 35th anniversary. Staff, students and volunteers from the council put in a lot of hard work that really paid off. They did an amazing job.

16 of our member councils sent at least one person to represent their organization.  Outside of the host council, Hamilton Literacy Council sent the largest group. sending 11 individuals, 4 of them students. Way to go Hamilton! We know how difficult it is to come up with money to attend an unfunded conference.

While attendance was down a little we feel the conference was a huge success. The smaller numbers made for some great networking opportunities. The weekend was filled with informative workshops, great food and as always, amazing people.

The conference ended with a tree being planted in memory of our  beloved literacy ambassador Arnie Stewart who passed away last August.  Arnie's wife Barb, son Alan, and daughter Nicole were all in attendance for this very special event.

Thank you to everyone who took part in this year's conference!
